Why I Am a Chiropractor
I believe things happen in this life for a reason. This means there are no simply random occurrences in time and history. In my personal belief system this is because an intelligent higher power created and sustains us.

When I was nearly 4 years old, my father finished seminary and was called to a small town church pastorate in Illinois. During our first 2 years there I began suffering with chronic and painful ear infections. Our family physician tentatively diagnosed a condition called mastoiditis and suggested treatment which included drugs and possible surgery. Today mastoiditis is successfully treated conservatively, but in the early 1950’s surgery to remove the mastoid bone was common. Thankfully my parents were not particularly inclined to having their little boy go through a serious surgical procedure and remained open to another approach.

When a young chiropractor and his family moved to town and started attending our church, my parents consulted with him and I began a series of chiropractic treatment. Within in a month or so I was having no ear problems at all. It was during this time that I recall telling my parents that I was going to be a chiropractor when I grew up.

Some 50+ years later I find myself at the beginning of my 38th year as a doctor of chiropractic (D.C.). Since starting practice in 1977, I have treated thousands of patients and have witnessed, first hand, the wonderful capacity our bodies have to heal themselves.

I have never touted chiropractic as a cure-all. There is certainly a place for drug and surgical intervention. In many cases, however, it is logical to begin with a conservative and non-invasive approach to a particular physical problem. In our office, each individual case stands alone. Your problem would thoughtfully be considered, after getting the information needed, before moving ahead with a course of treatment.

(See "Your Problem Considered").
